Our love story begins with a love story between a Danish business man and his hearing-impaired wife. As Hans Demant desired to help his wife, he traveled to England to purchase the same hearing device that assisted the Queen of England, Princess Alexandra.
By 1904, after witnessing his wife’s improvement, he won a contract with General Acoustic Co. to begin distribution of hearing devices in Denmark - the electric Acousticon Device.
After the death of Hans Demant, his son took over the company in 1910 and furthered the company’s growth. Overcoming the production challenges of WWI and WWII, William Demant designed the first Danish-made hearing device, the Acousticus.
A year after the second world war ended, William partnered with Charles Lehman, an American hearing aid producer and Oticon was born.
